According to son Charles, he held the political views of a "theoretical socialist", meaning he believed strongly in the raising up of thedowntrodden, but never offered to give up his assets for them . ThomasCharles and his wife held weekend teas where people gathered with artistsand authors to discuss the issuese were mostly when they were firstmarried, and before they became involved more with their young sons. Theywere close friends with author and lecturer Houston Peterson of GreenwichVillage, NY, who told all of his author friends to be sure to see theGoulds while they were in California. TCG disliked business, and turnedover most of the family real estate management to Viola Frank, who "visited the little gas station in Alhambra every day to see how things were going." (CPG) He also (same source) was an active member of a group in Los Angeles that set out to debunk the growing numbers of psychics
and seers in LA.

have been active on many of the committees..... I am a member of theCongregational Church....." ...won most litigation for city. Cases fromliability for falls to bootlegging.

1935- designated associate justice in District Court of Appeal,
1936 - juvenile court in Long Beach. Reputed to be "among the fairestminded, best liked, and most able judges of the County. (article fromLong Beach Reporter.) Reporter described him as "A kindly, grey-hairedman, tall and spare of build with a benign face, enlivened by a pair ofhumorously twinkling eyes, greeted her courteously....personalityunassuming, tolerant, a man of simple speech, kindly, apparently devoidof egotism, appreciat ive, and with a broad understan ding of humannature."Prefers to handle civil matters.
Nov 9, 1946 - Judge Gould seeks to retire at the end of the year becauseof illness. Has appliked for retirement on disabilit y at 1/2 of hiscurrent $12,000 yearly. Judge Gould has been absent frequently from thebench lately, reportedly because of a heart ailment. Appointed 1927,reelected four times.
1939- president of "The American Society for the Perpetuation of theSquid." a semi-newspaper organization.
1940 - elected Presidiing Judge of LA Superior COurt.
1942 - Pomona department of LA Sup. Ct.
