Theodore Kenney
Ann Marie (Kenney) Durgin adurgin@myfairpoint.net
My name is Ann Marie (Kenney) Durgin. I live in
Blue Hill, Maine. My e-mail is adurgin@myfairpoint.net.
Although my name is spelled “Kenney”, I believe that our family
originated with the “Keeney” family from the region near (or in)
Hartford, Connecticut. The main clue is the occurrence of the name
Alexander in nearly every generation. I am seeking solid evidence that
will prove this connection.
Connecticut Church Record Abstracts (Ancestry.com) Vol. 1 (of 2) for
East Hartford: Birth of Theodah (Theodore, I believe), son of Alexander,
bp. Sept. 4, 1748.
My line goes as follows:
Gen. 1: Theodore Kenney (various spellings) and wife Rebecca (maiden
name unknown, but could be Benton) migrated from Connecticut to New York
around 1796 and settled in Northampton, Montgomery County, New York.
They sold part of their land in 1809. I believe Theodore died about
1815. Among their children were: Elijah, Jeremiah and Alexander.
Gen. 2: Jeremiah Kenney married Polly Sherwood (dau. of Zadoc Sherwood).
Among their children was a son, Alexander, born in 1810. They moved to
West Sparta, Livingston County, New York about 1817 and remained in that
area until about 1940.
Gen. 3: Alexander Kenney married Fannie Allen. Among their children was
a son, George B. Kenney.
Gen. 4: George B. Kenney married Bridget O’Hara. They had only one
child, Alexander L. Kenney – my grandfather.
I will happily provide additional information and details on request. I
am also in contact with a descendant of Elijah (see Gen. 1) who is 88
years old and would love to discover the origin of our family.
Regards,
Ann Durgin
