Welcome to the newest newsletter members:
Hi, Everyone I have received quite a bit of stuff in the past couple of weeks so this is going to be an early edition for October.
Cindy Marcell posted a notice about the 2nd edition of The Rev. Jonathan A. Keeney & His Descendants & this is part of the reason I'm posting the October KFG newsletter now, so if you want to order a copy you can.
I also received Roscoe's Keeney UpDate newsletter the same day I posted the September issue of this one, I thought it was strange because both newsletters mentioned Odette Keene (Opal Keeney).

NY state Keeneys
Dan,
Good afternoon. I found your website today, nice job. I am descended from a Philip Adelbert Keeney born 1848. He was the son of Isaac Thayer Keeney and Mary Collins. Philip lived in a tiny community in Oswego county called Granby, NY. He moved his family to Orwell, NY and there they stayed. I was wondering if you saw a connection to your line. I have a little info on his wife and children etc. and would be glad to share if you need it. That's as far as I have this line and I am working on many. At last count I've got 64 surnames! Never a dull moment.
Thanks,
Susan

Keeney Ames
Hi Dan, I am trying to find connections of my gr-gr-grandfather Keeney Ames. I think he may have been named for a Kinney or Keeney family. The data I have is: he was born, 1781, Waterford, CT. and died 1858, buried in Central Village, Plainfield, CT. Wife was Abigail Moore b. 1791, E. Lyme, CT. d. 8, Jan. 1858, also buried in Ctral Vill., Plainfield, CT. Their son was Sylvester W. Ames. Hope there may be a connection here to Keeneys. Selma

You know you're a genealogy addict when...
_ You brake for libraries
_You hyperventilate at the sight of an old cemetery
_You would rather browse in a cemetery than a shopping mall
_You would rather read census schedules than a good book
_ You are more interested in what happened in 1699 than 1999
_Jenkins, Murray and Godwin are household names, but you can't remember what to call the dog
_You can pinpoint Harriieysham, Hawkhurst, Kent, but you can't locate your state capital on the map
_You know every register at the local archives by name, but they lock the doors when they see you coming
__You store your clothes under the bed because your wardrobe is full of books and papers
_You eat on the patio all the time because your dining room table is hidden by unsorted papers and there are files on every chair
_You have traced every one of your ancestral lines back to Adam and Eve, have it documented, and still don't want to quit
_ You check out mail lists looking for "real" cousins
_You're thrilled to get an e-mail with an 800K attachment of part of your family
_When you introduce yourself, you always add "I'm looking for dead relatives!"
_You eat at the computer
_You get withdrawal pains when you have to leave the computer
_Your computer stays on 24 hours a day and you check your e-mail every hour

What a wonderful resource. Thanks for developing and keeping the site. My grandfather is Luther P. Keeney b. Fort Scott, KS late l800's. His parents: F. Louis Ferdinand Keeney m. Effie Harris. My understanding is they raised horses in Kentucky, and when the armies started commandeering horses for use in the Civil War, they decided to move to Colorado. While herding horses to Colorado, they began to lose horses to Indians, so headed back east and eventually settled in the Fort Scott, Kansas area. My father was Vernon Keeney. We lived in Norfolk, NE. My Dad's brothers: John, Virgil and Lindley. Sisters: Georgia, Marguerite. John, deceased, and Virgil lived in Detroit, Michigan. Lindley is in Oregon. The sisters are deceased. My Keeney relatives are wonderful folks, full of good humor, songs and stories. I am still not certain whether our family name was changed from the German Koenig or whether we are of Irish extraction. There is a family tale that GGGrandfather, smitten with the spirited red haired Harris lass, changed his name from Koenig to Keeney so as to please her Irish family and to win her hand. It will be fun trying to untangle all of this. They were supposed to raise fine Morgan draft horses. My Gpa Luther had a brother Alva. I do not have other family names yet. If any of this sounds familiar to any of you, I would appreciate help as I begin the search. Thanks for this great Keeney site Dan.
