Editor's note

Hello Everyone.

I'm back from Ireland, had a lot of fun while over there and even met a few or the Irish Keeney's.

As most of you may know the name Keeney derives from the Gaelic Cianaigh which is pronounced (O Keeney), (see the Pre-American History of the Keeney Surname by Bill Allen Keeney for more on this if you haven't read it yet). If you'd like to see the written or hear the Gaelic language see the Gaelic page that's linked to Bill's article, for links to a Gaelic site.

The KRR page appears to be working the way I wanted it to, at least more people are asking to be put on it. If you or your line(s) are not listed and you want it / them to be just drop me a line with the info and I'll put 'em up ASAP.

As a reminder for those of you that have items that may be of interest to other researchers, I will supply you with a directory (free of charge, as long as I have space) where such can be posted.

Hi Gina,
There are more of us out here then are listed on my site.

I don't have many contacts among the NJ branch(es) of  Keeney's. I do have a Joseph D. Keeney whose grandparents came from Co. Donegal Ireland and settled around Hoboken, in the early 1900's then moved to Staten Island and I think one other that's a police sergeant or something, though I can't seem to find my notes on him.

There are a couple of things you can try in finding your half sisters, I can post a query in the next issue of my newsletter, we would need to add just a little more info then you   listed below.

(here I suggested a query)

If you go to http://www.whitepages.com/ and type Keeney in the Last Name field & choose New Jersey for the State you get a return on 45 Keeney's living in the state.

As for having a crazy family, what would life be like if we weren't all a little bit crazy?

Mr. Daniell Lee Keeney

I'm interested in my own family history and would greatly appreciate anything you would have to tell me. My immediate family is from the Chicago area and I at least know that my grandpa from my dad's side is named Clarence. Thanks. Mike Keeney

ANYBODY DESCENDED FROM GEORGE HUMPHREY KEENEY??

Posted by Janie on August 19, 2000 at 22:12:19:

HI. I am Janie, 48, living near Canon City, CO. My grandfather was Denver Keeney, son of GEORGE HUMPHREY KEENEY AND MARY SHAFER KEENEY OF RISING SUN, INDIANA. Their other children were Florence, Mabel, Burke, Bayard, and Hale. And now EVERYONE is gone from Rising Sun, darn it!! I saw many graves, though. My grandfather Denver was close to his sister Florence. I have a dress worn by Mary Shafer---she was tall, thin, and elegant!! Would love to connect to Keeney cousins down from George Humphrey!! Where are you?? My grandfather Denver was a very dear man!

1846 Holt Co, MO Probate File for John Keeney, Jr.

Introduction and Background:

My transcription of the 1846 Holt Co, MO Probate file for John Jonathan Keeney, Jr, brother of Rev. Jonathan Anthony Keeney, is a part of my search for the husband and family of Susannah McLaughlin. Susannah McLaughlin was a sister of my ggg grandfather, Charles M. McGlothlen and of my ggg aunt, Mary Hannah (McGlothlen) Keeney, wife of Rev. Jonathan Anthony Keeney.

On 3 November 1828, in Lafayette Co, MO, John McGlothlin, Jr filed in Circuit Court an action for the Intestate Probate of his father, John McLaughlin, Sr. Through that file I learned that this John McLaughlin, Sr was my gggg grandfather and also the father of , among others, Mary Hannah (McGlothlen) Keeney. In that probate action, John McGlothlin, Jr lists the following as one of the heirs:

"John Keeny who married Susannah McLaughlin"

(Editors note: this Probate prints out to 12 pages, so to see the entire file click here).
